Educational Excellence is a hallmark of Eanes ISD. Maintaining this excellence has been at the forefront of my tenure as a Trustee. Both the pandemic and the State budget have put a strain on the district’s budget, which ultimately impacts the ability to deliver the best resources to our students. Despite these many constraints, our ACT and SAT scores are at an all-time high, we have won multiple state championships, all while lowering our district tax rate. Experienced leadership and integrity are imperative as we focus on the needs of every child in the district. My ability to work collaboratively with my fellow trustees is the only way to ensure we continue to succeed.
Schools must be a place where all students have a safe place to learn and feel accepted. The events of the past year have made it clear that Eanes ISD must be more proactive in this domain. We must build an environment where both similarities and differences are celebrated. While this work has started with racial awareness, I believe it should continue to expand into other areas of difference such as ability, culture, gender, economic, and religious backgrounds. Goals of improving empathy, understanding, and a sense of belonging are ones we should embrace.
The Eanes ISD budget faces challenges in the coming years due to State of Texas school finance laws which do not benefit district such as Eanes, coupled with unexpected expenses related to the pandemic. It is imperative that we have leadership who understands Texas School Finance laws and how they relate to our district. This will allow any necessary budget changes to be made with the best interests of the student in mind.
